Short‐Term Heat Treatment of the High‐Alloy Cold‐Work Tool Steel X153CrMoV12: Calculation of Metastable Microstructural States

The influence of short-time heat treatment on the widely used and commercially available ledeburitic cold-work tool steel 1.2379 (X153CrMoV12; AISI D2) is examined herein. Starting from a soft annealed initial condition, different austenitizing temperatures holding times metastable microstructural states after treatment/hardening investigated. experimental implementation in quenching dilatometer, simulation model built using these results. As validation model, one hand, martensite start temperature (Ms) used, measured experimentally by dilatometry. Additionally, carbide content distribution, as determined quantitative image analysis, are compared with simulated data an indicator accuracy. Through developed arbitrary treatment-induced can be calculated. possible application this live-adaption industrial process dependence batch chemical composition discussed.
